The more I read about 'youth unemployment' the angrier I get. What is the government doing to solve this epidemic of unemployment? If the children are our future, what does this mean for our future? Ok so if we are in a recession surely we should be focusing on what can be done to ease the pain of the recession and by this I don't just mean financial cut backs. People are involved in the recession, not just money.
The government is supposed to be 'freeing up money' to be spent in the public sector. What exactly does this mean? And where is this money going? It certainly isn't being given to businesses as an incentive to higher and train the

I was walking to work when suddenly I heard a peculiar sound it was as if the sky was groaning. I looked up and to my surprise the sky was twirling purple and green like the aurora borealis. Out of the blue, bolts of purple and green struck the ground. There was silence. Then the lightning storm ensued. The city skyline filled with fire. What was going on? I ran into the nearest shop to shelter. The shop keeper was staring out of the window awestruck. I approached her and ask her if she could turn on the news. She took me in the back room and turned on the TV. The news consumed every facet of our attention. The breaking news was the lightning
The Apprentice, yes an apprentice is often a novice chosen to learn from a master but come on! These contestants are meant to be business entrepreneurs. The definition of an entrepreneur is: "the owner or manager of a business enterprise who, by risk and initiative, attempts to make profits." The apprentices certainly lack in the initiative part. I find it really difficult to watch this show. How are these people business entrepreneurs? If I were given the opportunities they are given I would not waste them. These people seem lazy, immature and frankly rather stupid. How is this entertainment if your gut reaction is to turn off the TV in amaz

Sex is a "powerful and primitive instinct" (Sexual liberation, accessed 10th March 2009) in which men are expected to be sexually attracted to "fertile females" (Sexual liberation, accessed 10th March 2009) and women are meant to be sexually attracted to men who are able to provide for them. But nowadays we no longer need to have sex for the survival of our species. Even sex is no longer required for reproduction. (McNair, 2002:1) New technologies now mean there are

Women and body image:
Women's lifestyle magazines focus mainly on the theme of women's bodies: women become either fat, thin, ugly or gorgeous. They also instruct women to lose weight and they do this by promoting the latest dieting craze. Dieting is one of the most prominent and expected parts of women's lifestyle magazines. They seem to suggest that weight and looks are of the upmost importance. Within the lifestyle magazine 'Closer' alone, there are countless references to female appearance and

Men are pretty much represented purely by gender stereotyped interests within men's magazines and more so on what they do rather than actually physically being seen in the magazines. Generally, in Nuts and Zoo men are represented as 'sex crazed' considering the majority of Nuts and Zoo's content is made up of ladies with a distinct lack of clothes for example, there is a comment about how the majority of female TV presenters

Abstract:
To explore the concept of gender in lifestyle magazines I will be looking at what images are used of men and women and how they are used. I want to know how people are affected by such images and whether this can be linked to eating disorders or even simply a person's self esteem.
I will be looking in detail at why women's magazines are full of dieting, beauty and general advice on how to please men. But men's magazines are semi porn with reports on football matches, games and the latest gadgets. I will look at what effect this has on gender roles in s

Do you ever feel that your friendship that was once very sweet has become ever so bitter? I have this friend and I have known her a decade. We were once the closest of friends we shared secrets, hopes and dreams and she was great to be around. But friendship between girls is such a fragile thing.

Whilst writing my dissertation which is titled Exploring gender in lifestyle magazines I was appalled at the language used in a particular male orientated magazine because this was not relevant to my dissertation I have decided to write a brief separate piece.
Nuts has blatant examples of degradation of the English language within our culture. It frequently uses slang and dialect in every written sentence. There is such a broad use of slang that at times it appears to be a completely different language. Its baffling, Im a 21 year old female and yes I know that this magazine is not aimed at me but still we both speak E

..the bucket before the bottom
I fell down a well and hit the bucket before the bottom
I am shipwrecked, I stumble on to the shore. I wander mindlessly. My thirst increased by the heat of the sun. I find a well, intoxicated by dehydration I reach for the rope holding the bucket. I lose my balance and begin to fall expeditiously down the well. I can't see anything. I am blind. I have no nocturnal sight. I hit something, it must be the bucket. I have broken something of mine. It hurts like nothing I have ever felt before. My decent has decreased but I'm still falling. The pain is unbarable.
My hopes are; to find the rope, a life-line to bring me back to safe ground, to hit
I started a blog today. I don't think I like blogging at all but it pretty good for free writing but at the same time it left me rather depressed. I'll try and keep it updated.

I started writing a new postapocalyptic story last friday. I've written the indroduction but I'm still planning how the story is going to pan out. I may upload it soon. But for now I shall continue my search for a job.

Hello folks!
I found my USB stick but all it contained was my dssertation so I've uploaded it in four parts. Sadlly non of my story was on there but anyhoo I may just end up writing another one.
I've started free writing to get my cogs turning so I should be submitting some new stuff. I have more free time as I have moved to a new area and I am now unemployed once again. I had another uni interview but again didn't get in and now I'm wondering if I should persue journalism again instead of teaching but I don't know.
